Latest information:
As the nights draw in we are moving the Training Session to Saturday morning at 10.00 am, starting on Satuday, 4 October 2008. Due to the weather being temperamental you can ring me on the Saturday from 9.30 am to find out if the Training is on. My number is 856177.
Originally the Club owned 6 Topper sailing dinghies to help teach beginners how to sail. However, the Club now owns a fleet of 6 Laser Picos as well as the Topper dinghies. Picos have self draining hulls, have the option of a Jib and can be sailed with 2 people on board.
As well as having our own training boats, we also have wetsuits and buoyancy aids so you dont even need to buy any equipment to start learning to sail - you dont even have to be a member (although we do hope youll join once you "catch the sailing bug"). If you have any surplus equipment why not donate it to the club for the beginners to use.
Training carries on all year round, weather permitting. Training starts at 10 am on Saturday morning and nothing beats sailing in Sandown Bay with a gentle summer breeze. When the beginners go out there is always at least one safety boat close at hand to help.
We take our training sessions very seriously so they are not run unless we have 2 RYA instructors available, the conditions are suitable and if young people are attending we also like their parents to be around.
