The Club is nestled just below Culver Down on the right hand side of Sandown and is situated very close to a lovely, gently sloping sandy beach (although when the tide is out it is not very close to the sea!). The whole bay encompasses the resort towns of Sandown and Shanklin, has cliffs at both ends with approximately 4 miles of sandy beach between. The Bay itself was voted the best bay on the South coast and with predominately South Westerly winds (cross-shore) and a South East-facing beach a Force 4 can mean a relatively flat sea. With very little boat traffic, very few moored boats and a maximum tidal speed of 2 knots it offers fantastic sailing. The beach itself is used by lots of people both on and off the water. The activities range from dog walking and sun bathing to Kitesurfing. If you prefer something more sedate then a walk to the top of Culver Down will reward you with breath taking views across Sandown Bay to Shanklin on one side or Bembridge and the mainland in the distance. As the name suggests, the Yaverland Sailing and Boating Club is not only home to sailing boats. Our Members own a huge variety of water craft including Ocean Kayaks, Jet Skis and Seadoos (Find out more...), small motorised fishing boats (Find out more...) as well as a large selection of mono and multi-hull sailing craft. Beginners are very welcome and well catered for. You don't even have to own your own boat or equipment to start learning. The Club owns 5 Laser Picos for teaching beginners to Sail. Our Members are extremely friendly and always willing to lend a hand if you get stuck. Also, many of our Members are trained to instructor level and help out during the Beginners Sessions. It's the little things that really make the Club stand out. For instance, there is a water tank for testing outboard motors, a large parking and trailer storage area and with such a large membership there is no shortage of eager hands to help you bring your boat up the slipway.

The Club owns several tractors that are used to take boats to and from the beach. The Club has separate changing and shower areas for men and women and a large Sail store. All our facilities are on the ground floor with parking very close to the main facilities so are accessable by disabled people. Other Club facilities include a bar and function room that is available for hire. We have an extensive Social calendar with event being organised during the Spring, Summer and Autumn seasons. In 2011 the Isle of Wight is playing host to the Island Games. Since the first Island Games in 1985, which were held in the Isle of Man, they have been held every two years. The Island Games have grown in popularity and in stature. The Guernsey Games in 2003 had over 2,000 competitors and with the support of NatWest offshore received extensive media coverage. The YSBC premises will be taking an active part in the Windsurfing event and as we get closer to the even we will post more information on our website. Find out more....
